Who needs love???? we need resolutions. lol
1/07/2008 - BLACKBURN
dp says:
dare I say, as a self confessed fragile fella, who is also as someone in Glasgow put it "a political gobshite", that my shout is for both love and resolutions ... there's a poetry book to be written here, let's call it Urban Love Poetry! :-) cheers, dp |

Hello Darren, just had to say you were hilarious at Clitheroe festival! Great music and the crack was superb, many thanks. PS WE DO NOT POINT AT PLANES!
24/05/2008
dp says:
I'm still buzzing on the Clitheroe outing ... surreal and brilliant, what a fantastic occasion, playing two sets and although I was pretty exhausted, I felt like playing all night ... we certainly had the atmosphere hope to see you again soon, I'll really look forward to it, thanks lots, dp :-) |

Hi Darren, Just to say that we really enjoyed your gig in Blackpool supporting John Cooper Clark. We thought you played a blinder filling in for John (kind of indefinitely) till he turned up! Also, thanks for playing your version of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' - brilliant, please record it soon!
22/05/2008 - Lancashire
dp says:
Lovely to see you both, thanks for being there ... I feared the worst, never easy playing to Clarkey's crowd, especially in such a spacious venue. In the end, I really appreciated the long set, it made me work for my badges.
A little addition: after the show, I came out of the venue carrying all my gear, and spent over an hour walking around Blackpool before I eventually found my car ... doh!

Hi Darren The Stamps gig went down well - i'm not sure if the burghers of Crosby were quite prepared for the full Poyzer. There were certainly a few open mouths amongst the throng. Hope the dash to Grasmere was worthwhile See you soon fella
22/05/2008 - Garswood
dp says:
Crosby was wild wasn't it, in that old Sunday all day piss up kinda way. I was well up for that one, big fun!
I arrived Grasmere with 25 mins to set up ... then fell asleep in the car on the way home ... the cold, the neck ache ... who said rock'n'roll was glamorous??
lovely to see ya both, hope you enjoyed Attila, he's superb thanks lots, dp x |

Hi Darren I saw you at the Boardwalk in Sheffield with the Nimmo Brothers the other week and thought your music was great. Thought you would have been much better without the harmonica player though (sorry!)Have visited your web site and had a listen to the PFF stuff and just wish it was available to download (especially Someone For Me)- it sounds great! Keep up the good work and hope to see you in Sheffield again soon.
12/05/2008 - Sheffield, England
dp says:
Hi Helen, thanks for lovely message ... would you believe it I came away from that gig thinking it was just 'ok', so I'm well chuffed you enjoyed it. Nice honesty about the harmonica, appreciated ... we do that improvised without rehearsal, it's a 'for the moment' thing and maybe it doesn't always work as well as it could.
The PFF tracks and line-up will have their day I hope, sooner rather than later
Thanks again, hope to see you soon, I'm back at The Boardwalk later this month dp x |

Really enjoyed your support slot for the Saw Doctors at Holmfirth last night - 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' in particular was a joy to behold! Will try to catch you live again a.s.a.p.
26/04/2008 - Royton
dp says:
Thanks Dunc, I took a chance with LWTUA because it's a quiet song and during such a manic full on occasion, I put my trust in the sound engineer being able to get the quieter guitar 'picking' to cut through.
He did a great job, and for me to be able to play a set with different and varied dynamics makes it a much more rewarding experience.
See ya soon, cheers, dp :-) |

Saw you in St Helens (pre Focus) with my son. Really enjoyed the show - we were right in front of you against the stage - TERRIFIC !!!
25/04/2008 - Home is: Eccleston, Chorley, Lancs
dp says:
Thanks Gerard for your very kind comments ... it was a really fab show last night, and for me not only were the audience fantastic, Focus were very complimentary towards me, especially Thijs van Leer. For a 'circuit' songwriter / musician like myself, that is a pretty special kinda compliment :-) thanks and best, c ya next time, dp |

It's been a while Darren - but I keep tabs on you through Dave Hiett! I got a mandolin from Jo my partner for Christmas - persuade me to bring it to your place for a jam. It would be good to see you and catch up. John Homer and I compiled a CD titled Savage Amusement - I'll send you a copy.
16/04/2008 - 99 Manor Road, Medomsley, Consett, DH8 6QL
dp says:
George, matey :-) it must be summer soon, outdoor busking, a little beverage, you're welcome any time ... Dave Hiett, aka The Weavils, most excellent, enjoyed a little open mic shindig with them in Northwich recently ... love a copy of the cd please, usual address, dp x |

Thanks for another great performance at the Platform, Morecambe, Darren. A great night - the third time I have seen you. Wishbone - loved the Reggae Phoenix! What did you think? Shawn Mullins - 'Shimmer' can be found on two of his albums - 'Eggshells' & 'Soul's Core'. Another great song on Eggshells is 'Where's Johnny'. Enjoy. Kind regards - Tony
13/04/2008 - Lancashire!
dp says:
a pleasure Tony, an outstanding gig for everyone ... I especially enjoyed WA probably more than at any other time, I was really up for their show last night ... and yes, whether it's reggae kicks or drum loops, they manage to keep it fresh and exciting on each and every tour
I actually know Shawn Mullins' 'Lullaby' ... it got a lot of play on an internet station I used to listen to, Radio IO Acoustic ... I can acquire 'Shimmer' on I-Tunes, but not from the Eggshells album ... wondering if that's a more 'acoustic' version? I'll download these and see how they work for solo acoustic versions
thanks again mate, always a pleasure and a privilege to get kind responses after wonderful shows

Couldn't make it to Runcorn, but I hope you and Nick can do some more together, 'cos there's my dream ticket for a gig. Sorry you couldn't make it for the Grandmothers; they were loads of fun last night in Cambridge. Nick's there next week, any chance of an impromptu? There is a world south of Glossop, you know!
10/03/2008 - Cambridge
dp says:
cheers Brian, I always love to gig with Nick, however good etiquette suggests I should only get to play when invited, whcih is every now and then ... having said that, I'm off to sneak a free ticket for his Brum show this week, so I'll 'have a word'. Grandmothers, well I was well up for that, but their agent was a bit cold on the idea, suggesting their set was going to be 3 hours on a good night, so I thought better of it ... rather be made welcome and wanted, than tagged on for the sake of it, and there will be other tours I'm sure. Cambridge ... I ran the merch table for John Martyn in Cambridge once upon a time! Darren :-) |

Hi Darren, love the sleeve picture of 'bloody love songs'.did you visit Glasgow to have your face done like that?! (he he) . great website too! all the best as always mate neilx
5/03/2008 - Glasgow
dp says:
Ha! * lol * Yeah, after the last visit, maybe so ... actually it was done by an ex-housemate of mine called Eliza who was studying theatrical make-up in college, and we came to a little deal to help each other out ... I had this idea for an album cover, she needed a model. There's another of me complete 'whited-out' by the first layer of make-up - it's a very dramatic pose also and I'm gonna place it on the cd reverse. Cheers, dp |

Hi Darren, I was really looking forward to watching your act last night at Middlewich, after my stint selling tickets at the door. I have heard such good things about you and your material. But I am due to go into hospital soon and sitting for long periods pinches a nerve in my pelvis so had to go while I could still get to the car! Hi Darren,
I hope you're well. I've just found you're web page via a link from the Globe's. Listened to your music, watched the video clips, bloody excellent.
Recently a fiend (Rick Farrow) and myself started a new venture called the Intimate Gig Company. We're aiming to put on a monthly evening concentrating on americana, alt counrty, acoustic, roots blues etc.
Initially we will using a venue called the Old School Inn, in a place called Epworth (in between Scunthorpe and Doncaster). The room we are to use has capacity for 100 with a raised stage and good acoustics. We have our first night booked for mid October and plan to go fropm there.
If you're interested in working a gig with us in the future get in touch and we'll take it from there. You can get me on the email address attached or call me on 07845981647.
All the best and I'll look forward from hearing from you.

hello Darren, and good to see and hear you last night. I set out to send this note then saw that you were ahead of me in your 'diary'. Don't be hyper-critical of your performance which really was fine,I think it is that the audiences in North Wales are relatively reserved [ Chapel background happens] Anyway if I don't make it to Nantwich thought I'd let you know my web page which needs updating / renewing. Would you be interested in the job sometime in the winter when I have got my new images together? Catch up with you again soon. David

Hi Darren, First saw you supporting Wishbone at the Pacific - Terriffic support and was smitten by your style. Kept meaning to get to see you again (you know how it is!) hi Darren
sorry - meant to reply before now to say thanks for the cds and how much i've been enjoying them ; a revelation ...
Taken together with your election comments on the website, the 2 albums have been a great inspiration and comfort - my soundtrack, in fact - over the last few weeks of political drivel. Great songs sung with passion, and with the insight and tenderness won from hard experience. (maybe soft experience too!)
And the playing is so fresh for studio work - love the violin especially. Favourite songs are, er, most of them! Sunday Morning Footballer, perhaps, and most of BW, esp. Julie Rainbow and the last track.
Very cheering, and also humbling, to see how you've survived all you've been through, and with a song in your heart and compassion and anger for the state of things. Keep on keeping on.
i hope to catch a gig soon, though will be moving back down to Worcestershire in the summer. You'll have to start playing south of the great divide!
When i'm solvent again, will get copies of your stuff to send to my ex, who left Ashton last year to live in north Spain (with her Spanish partner, who'd served his time in Ashton - nearly 5 years at the lighting factory, i forget the name), and who was also a fan of your brief and reluctant early(?) performances at The Witchwood.
finally, here's a cut andpaste of Martin Stephenson's response when i let him know i'd caught up with you in Sheff. You might be pleased by at least part of it! (a bugget? is that geordie?)
"Darren is a lovely man and has done so so much for music He was a canny soccer player too I think he was a dirty bugget though on the field, a bit of a Norman Hunter in his day!"
I caught his Leeds gig the other week - he just gets better and better (daintees.com for info) Rory Mcleod is in town tonight - another of the good guys
Thanks again for the brilliant music - look forward to hearing more in future take care
Jez

Nice to see you're busy, Darren, and I like the website. An avid visitor to the Witchwood a few years ago, and still so today from time to time. Recently I joined as bass/guitar/vocalist in top UK Emerson, Lake and Palmer tribute band, Noddys Puncture. We were going to launch with our new line-up at the Fisherman's Inn at Hollingworth Lake, Littleborough, but the guy's gone and sold the place for re-development. Now we are launching at the Six Bells, Chiddingly in Sussex (Mr Emerson's local) on 27 & 28 August. All BOF progrockers very welcome! Any promotors want to get in touch? Best of wishes.

HI, IVE JUST READ YOUR TENPOLE TUDOR GIG REVIEW ETC...VERY INTERESTING READING. IVE WRITTEN TO ED TUDORPOLE FOR OVER 10 YEARS, YOU COULDN'T MEET A NICER MAN,A GENEROUS AND DOWN TO EARTH BLOKE.....HE DOES A LOT OF WORK FOR ''FATHERS FOR JUSTICE''.... HE IS HOWEVER A PERFECTIONIST, AND HE WANTS EVERYTHING JUST RIGHT PRIOR TO AND DURING A GIG...HE IS A TOP SHOWMAN.... UNFORTUNATELY YOU MUST HAVE CAUGHT HIM ON A BAD DAY. HE IS A BRILLIANT BLOKE ON A NORMAL DAY... EDDIE TUDORPOLE...A PRINCE AMONG MEN. HE IS ABOUT TO RELEASE NEW MATERIAL SOON... SO BEWARE A TOUR WILL FOLLOW. STEVE RICHARDSON

dp says:
dp writes: I edited two poetry anthologies for the Manchester Poetry Festival in the 90's, the other being 'Urban Love Poetry'.
No poetry of mine featured, don't think I was that good a poet to be honest, although if arthritis ever cripples the guitar playing, who knows ... ?
