A
BRAND NEW POYZER ALBUM IN THE MAKING
Yep, the time is right and I am currently sneaking a little time here
and there to record a brand new album. Work in progress title of 'Underproduced',
the tracks are actually being carefully laid down with instruments
all mic'd up where possible, to capture that truly acoustic feel.
Big plug therefore
for Buzz Hawkins, he of The Bradshaws fame, whose studio I am using
on this occasion, and Joel the engineer who is busy getting the sound
to sound groovy ... nicely situated just down the road in Ashton Under
Lyne, it's a cracking good, friendly, cosy and very well equipped
set-up. We are therefore working hard to achieve worthwhile stuff,
it'll take a little while, but already I reckon I can promise at the
very least, an awesome version of JULIE RAINBOW and a magical take
of a new song called MEN & MACHINES.
Check out Hawkins
Studio on 0161 339 0631, now taking bookings for studio time. The
new Poyzer album will be due out in ... er, y'know ;-)

TONY
AUTON, ANDY GODDARD, BARRY LAWTON
Three excellent songwriters recommended by yours truly can be seen
around town as follows:
TONY AUTON
& THE TRAUMA
LIVE: SUNDAY JULY 13th in Ashton Under
Lyne
NEW CD: ALLERGIC TO RUST
Awesome Tony Auton - 6 foot plus, booming voice and stunning electric
guitar player - just happens to be one of the most dynamic songwriters
in Manchester. Under-rated and hideously ignored by the music press,
his latest album 'ALLERGIC TO RUST' is quite simply one of the best
aor albums you'll hear this year. If this guy was American, promoters
and journos would be wetting themselves, but as it is he's here on
our doorstep and taken for granted. Godd news however is that you
can see him at occasional free admission pub gigs, and most recommended
is THE GUZZLING GOOSE gig in Ashton, This Sunday afternoon July 13th,
from 3pm. It's just round the corner from The Witchwood, and don't
forget to buy the album ...
ANDY GODDARD
LIVE: TUESDAY JULY 15th in Chorlton
Occasional musical collaborator with George Borowski and yours truly
amongst others, the ever youthful Mr Goddard takes his piano and guitar
along to Iguana Bar on Tuesday July 15th from 8.30pm to show off some
cracking new material and maybe one or two classics from the back
catalogue. No new album just yet, but there is work in progress and
a free mp3 sample available at www.andygoddard.com/mp3/alive.mp3.
Go listen - Andy doesn't venture out to gig as often as the rest of
us and every song is a well crafted gem, so make the most of this
free admission evening.
BARRY
LAWTON
LIVE: THURSDAY JULY 31st in Fallowfield
NEW CD: BROWN LIPSTICK
Another in the catagory of fave albums of the year, Crewe based songwriter
Lawton is a cross between Weller and Strummer, with a hint of Costello.
Passion, anger, power, and full on beautiful melody all combine to
make him potentially one of the most powerful songwriters around.
Occasionally very loud, never too quiet, Lawton ventures into Bruins
Bar, Fallowfield, on Thursday July 31st from 8.30pm, when yours truly
will be privileged to be guesting as opening act for a change! Admission
is free you lucky people, so make the most of it.

MONTHLY
REVIEW - JUNE 2003
A
bit short of time to give the full monthly low-down of what happened
in June, but nevertheless, t'was top pop throughout!
REVIEW
> MOSSLEY ACOUSTICA
1st Thursday of every month, it's the longest running of the Acoustica
nights and it recieved some welcome praise from City Life Magazine
this month. Much deserved, I always look forward to this event which
takes place at The Blazing Rag in Mossley.
Next Mossley
Acoustica: THURS AUG 7th and 1st Thursday every
month.
REVIEW
> SUPPORTED MAN @ THE WITCHWOOD
Same night as the Mossley Acoustica, Thurs June 5th, popped in for
two gigs in a night with an extremely well recieved support slot for
those magical Welsh prog rockers. Kinda didn't expect to do too well
at this, but was very pleasantly surprised when people from this gig
turn up at two of my gigs soon after.
REVIEW
> RAILWAY, GREENFIELD with ROOM 13
It was Saturday June 7th and Ann English and Kirk McElhinney also
played, which meant we could recreate some of the stuff from the Global
album for the first time since February. Big mention for my special
guests tonight, John Done, Brian Mitchell and Phil Stock, all ex-Bookem
Danno and now trimmed down to an acoustic trio.
REVIEW
> BAKERS VAULTS with GEORGE BOROWSKI
Awesome. Thurs June 12th and GB and I performed alternative to each
other, a kinda one song each gig over two sets. Worked really well,
it's a format I first tried in anger with Mark Burgess, and with a
class act like George it's always going to be special. One of George's
mates was particularly pissed though, so I was a little precious at
times tonight ... !
REVIEW
> HAIGH HALL FESTIVAL
Sun June 15th, and the review of yours truly can be found elsewhere
on the poyzer.con website under 'publicity'. It starts "Poyzer
played his set better than I’d ever seen him on the stage ...
a powerful artist and one who certainly showed Haigh Hall how to rock
an acoustic guitar". It was a cracking day, loads of sun,
live music and a great atmosphere all round. Felt a little sorry for
a few friends who shall remain nameless for they played acoustic indoors
during the red hot sunny daytime, and kinda didn't have the best gig
on this occasion. Nevertheless the event was a great success for The
Wigan Music Collective and the hundreds, thousands(?) in attendance.
REVIEW
> 5 GO OFF TO PLAY GUITAR
And of course this was the month when we launched the weekly Monday
night gigs at The Railway in Greenfield. All shows so far have worked
really really well, it's a top night!
