'Songbook' Live @ Borders Books, Sun Oct 12th > what's new? <
As a prelude to recording virtually my entire back catalogue in an organic 'as written' acoustic format, Borders Books in Birstall are hosting an afternoon entitled 'Darren Poyzer: Songbook'
This will be an in-store live performance interspersed with discussion and stories, giving both a poetic and technical background to the songs, and looking at how inspiration comes and goes, how poetry and music combine, how performance and recording differ and enhance a song, and what possibly could a song be worth?
Please do come along. It's an all ages event, there's free refreshments and if it takes your fancy, an in-store Starbucks also, all situated with car parking and neighbouring restaurants and eateries.
Date: Sunday October 12th 2008
Time: 3 Sessions at 12 midday; 1.30pm; and 3pm

Candlelight for MIND
I've just recorded an exclusive track for MIND, specifically for a compilation cd that accompanied the opening of The Topaz Centre in my town of birth, Ashton Under Lyne. The track is called 'Candlelight' and it was produced by Mick Phillips.
Saw Doctors: Fantastic!
A little note as a thank you, not only to the people who have greeted me so respectfully at recent shows with Focus and Wishbone Ash, but also to the Saw Doctors fans who welcomed me in Holmfirth, when I played one of my most memorable concerts to a full house of rowdy and really up for it people. Many are saying it was one of the best Saw Doctors concerts of all time, and as a bit of a Docs fan myself, I am not going to argue with that sentiment at all!

3 Chords & The Truth - Come and Play!: The brand new open mic and special guests monthly event has kicked off in fine style. Taking place on the last but one Wednesday at DeBees in Winsford, the evening is hosted by yours truly and offers up fantastic creole food into the bargain. Admission is £2.50, you get in free if you are playing or reciting poetry, but to perform you need to arrive by 7.45pm, live stage runs 8pm to 10pm prompt, and dates and guests are listed on the Gigs and Tours page.

New website - The Legendary Manchester Busker: In my role as a web designer I often get to design a site I have lots of affection for and personal interest in. None moreso probably then The Legendary Manchester Busker site, launched to commemorate 20 years since the first in a series of small theatre shows, that I occasionally took part in, that helped to launch the careers of many songwriters and comedians. Indeed that whole alternative cabaret scene of the late 1980's, of which we were a very prominent part of, was the catalyst for alternative and new comedy, and at the time at the heart of political and social awareness through entertainment.
