The Brilliant Words Story
"An excellent 9 track cd of Poyzer's songs, well worth getting hold of ... There's more to this than the usual Poyzer voice and acoustic guitar: track 3 'Men & Machines' starts off with a laid back lounge music feel, and throughout the cd we get beautiful violin sounds weaving through the songs ... Darren's songs are catchy, memorable and never feel contrived. It's like the songs have written themselves, there's no sense of them being laboured over, they just flow out, as natural as can be ... a touching hairs-on-the-back-of-your-neck job ... if you see Mr Poyzer press money into his hands and demand a copy of this album" - Feedback Magazine
The thing I personally remember most about the recording of this album, is that it signalled my farewell from Ashton, and my time of great happiness living with Cath and Jasmine.
Indeed, the final song was most poignant, telling a life story that had a happy ending in the present day when it was written, that found itself crying another verse as I agonised over whether to keep this as 'on the record' or perform a last minute re-write.
As it goes, and it was truly the right decision, I stuck with the happy ending, capturing the moment that I treasured most, believing that if the story were to continue, there would be at least another song. As it turns out there is ... more on that to follow!
In terms of teaming up with Buzz Hawkins, it's strange how these things come around. I'd first met Buzz through Mark Tolle many years before back in Glossop, when he was a fledgling songwriter and bit-part middle of the night radio producer. Now though he was a double Sony Award Winning Producer, had set up studio in Ashton, and was achieving great success with 'The Bradshaws', a radio comedy family that was he hoped, making it's way onto the television.
Seeking to make his studio commercially available, and needing a new website, it was an easy deal to come to for both of us - he would produce some recordings for me, and I would build him a website.
The results: a full and very professionally produced album for me, for once we started there was no stopping - and for Buzz, a website that won us a UK Visionary Design Award for accessible web design! |
